Bio
Moving to Washington from Minnesota heightened Anne L. Cameron’s interest in the spectacular natural scenes available here. At first, her oil paintings emphasized realism. However, after taking an oil painting class here at Green River Community College, where she was exposed to the excitement of abstract painting, her focus changed to an abstract rendering of nature. Her creative process involves taking photos of nature for compositions, followed by transitioning them into oil paintings where nature’s aliveness and energy can be expressed through use of various brushstrokes and vivid colors.
Artist's Statement
Painting nature’s scenes instills in me a feeling of heightened relaxation. It involves my being in the moment and becoming part of it at the same time. This sensation of being one with nature was first ingrained in me while growing up in Minnesota, when I photographed its colorful sunsets, its crisp clouds, and mirrored water reflections. My love of nature is a theme I have continued to pursue in Washington with my abstract oil paintings, receiving inspiration from scenes of Puget Sound to the western beaches of the Olympic Peninsula.
